Dr. Maher Awad
Maher Awad currently serves as Senior Lecturer of Arabic and faculty in Asian Studies at Rice University. He has been living in the U.S. since the 1980s, where he completed his undergraduate studies in linguistics and English literature at California State University and later moved to the University of Colorado for his masterŐs and doctoral degrees in linguistics. Prior to teaching at Rice, Dr. Awad taught at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Virginia. His areas of training and expertise lie generally in Arabic linguistics, language acquisition and pedagogy, and language proficiency assessment. He is a certified ACTFL and ILR tester for Arabic. He divides his summer time between the U.S. and Jordan.
